Finding the right support

Chanel Davis & her daughter, Kamilah A.

Kamilah A., sixth grade, was struggling with reading and failed her iRead test twice. Though her parents signed her up for group tutoring and summer school, neither intervention helped.

“When nothing else was working for our daughter, we went back to the drawing board and found EQPD,” said Chanel Davis, Kamilah’s mother. “We immediately felt comfortable with the program. Everyone was friendly and helped us build a solid foundation. Over time, Kamilah’s confidence grew significantly, and she passed iRead.”

Kamilah has been meeting with her tutor for two years, working on both math and reading.  and Chanel says that her daughter’s tutor really got to know her, “It’s a family type of feeling.”

Chanel also said that EQPD makes it easy to be involved in her daughter’s education. She enjoys the platform and being able to watch recordings of the sessions back to see where Kamilah might need more support or encouragement later. She also appreciates how accessible the tutors have been, available to answer questions or lend support through text at all times of the day.

“I would definitely recommend EQPD to friends, and I have,” Chanel admitted. “As a former teacher, I know the value of getting support as soon as possible.”

During their sessions, Kamilah and her tutor play games and have fun while getting work done. It encourages her to show up to every session ready to do her best. Even Kamilah’s little sister, only in preschool, has been asking when it will be her turn to try.

“Every child should get some kind of service like this,” Chanel concluded. “We’ve loved watching Kamilah grow through EQPD tutoring.”
