Finding confidence through tutoring

Research shows a correlation between student confidence and academic success, so when Heather Prior’s daughter, Avery, began having test anxiety, they connected with EQPD to Grow for high-impact tutoring support.

“Avery has always received positive feedback and good grades, so when she told us she didn’t feel like she was able to learn anymore, we started exploring our options,” Prior said.

When Avery did not qualify for any in-school support, the Priors found EQPD. They appreciate the flexibility and responsiveness of the team, as well as how understanding their tutor is with Avery’s learning goals.

“[From November 2023 to July 2024] our daughter saw immense improvement in her NWEA test scores, and her confidence has soared,” Prior said. “She no longer refers to herself or her education negatively. Instead, she feels positive.”

Though Avery graduated from the program in May 2024, the Priors have continued working with EQPD. With their daughter moving from elementary school to middle school, staying in a consistent routine and getting set up for success were important factors the Prior family considered. They see tutoring as an extra resource to support Avery’s academic journey.

Prior also appreciates how involved she can be in Avery’s education. As a busy mom, she texts with Avery’s tutor and knows she is welcome to pop into any session if she has any questions.

“We will keep EQPD as a resource in our household,” Prior said. “I’m sure what that looks like will change over time, but it is definitely something we value.”
